Digital Photo Class at Pribilof Island Camps
July 4-28, 2008
Participants: Tom Collopy, Mary Frische, and Lisa Matlock
Mary Frische reported:
"It was a delight to be able to spend time with the Native kids on St. George and St. Paul. We hoped to be able to evoke in these kids a new interest and appreciation for the beautiful world they inhabited every day, through the medium of the camera. What a joy for Tom, Lisa and myself to see that happen as they scattered over the landscape, photographing flowers, animals, the sea, their own town on the shore of the Bering Sea. We then showed them how to work with the images on the computer, doing basic cropping and brightening, skills they seemed innately equipped to pick up quickly. Programs like this for Fish and Wildlife can do much to heal broken connections with the Native people of Alaska."
